SLEEPING GIANTS / PETE HERBERT RMX

20.10.10
emerging from afternoon studio sessions, the final scores, too many beers and then nights in an upstairs room at their local boozer, discomendments aka lee fisher (of mother >all funked up< fame) and paul kaminski have developed into a fine production unit who are into anything and everything. having started out cutting and pasting edits for their own dj use, they are now focusing on original productions that fuse different styles and genres from past to present. sleeping giant, their debut release on maxi discs, borrows unashamedly from the early network house sound, but fuses it perfectly with contemporary slo-mo house, disco and balearic vibes. whether on the beach or in the basement, the discomendments sound is equally at home! on the flip side, maxi label boss, pete herbert, turns up the heat and reworks the original into a dancefloor bomb. while disco deviant dicky trisco keeps his eye firmly on the mirror ball with a lo-slung ny influenced workout. listening to the sounds of maxi discs is guaranteed to release the pressure

numan khan from manchester is a new artist for planet mu with an original musical style that mixes dubstep and grime influences with an idiosyncratic take on rhythm to great effect.
this four track ep showcases his styles from the a side with the lush melodic accordian and snes melodies of >race against time<, to the slower, disco influenced >photograph<.
the b side starts with >voodoo<, which combines grimey bass and strings with offbeat drums to odd, driving effect and finishes with >xx< which sounds like a long lost golden era 8-bit grime instrumental but with deft production tweaks and fx that keep it interesting and effective.

with this release sinan kaya, an istanbul based dj and producer, is becoming a fresh member of the berlin tonkind crew. since 2001 his passion became also his profession, which he continuously dispread with dj-ing and scores of releases across the bosporus over to europe. his productions and sets can be defined as deep and playful. so aswell this release, which comes up with three variable tracks. something else in the front, shows sinan kayas touch for the impulsive sound.this track becomes a real trip on the dance floor and reflects a farsighted feeling for elctronic dance music. on the fells operates more the minimal genre and adepts a symbiosis of many samples, a duby bass and a bumpy rollin groove. as last but not least there is bloom, a rather charming and friendly tech/ deep house track consisting all required ingredients to make it work as dance floor teaser. in all three tracks its possible to notice some eclectic material of jazz, funk, chigago and jackin fragments put together to a unique sound and providing a different vision for life
darling farah is like a shot of adrenalin, administered by his own mind to escape from the anesthetized music scene of his home, the united arab emirates. despite living in one of the most club baron countries in the world and a city that actually prohibits live music to be played in public, the talented eighteen year old has managed to master the art of production and therein spawn an underground scene all on his own.

detroit is the first single from double night time, the upcoming album from morgan geist and his first solo artist album in over a decade. it features two epic, gorgeous remixes from grammy-nominated remixer carl craig and features vocals from jeremy greenspan of junior boys. after turning the dance music world on its head with his metro area project (alongside collaborator darshan jesrani) and mining rare disco gems with the seminal obscure disco dj mix unclassics (2004), geist decided it was time to turn his attention to a solo album. detroit is the lead song from the album and (as careful listeners may discern) is based loosely on 24k

after a lengthy break from the electronic music world, genotype is back with an lp for exit records and provides a lesson in stripped back dub influenced music at approximately 170 bpm. having started his music career in the mid nineties under the legendary alias just jungle, with releases on the massively influential labels of that era such as trouble on vinyl, renegade hardware and reinforced records, its no surprise that he has managed to capture the essence of rawness in his recent music akin to the early years of jungle. many producers have tried and failed to bring back the old skool sound with an original flavor but genotype has managed this by resisting the temptation to lash in the tired old classic breaks and instead has drawn for the more organic sounding percussion and drum kits. the dubbed out theme runs throughout the album paying homage to his love for west indian music which he has been involved in for many years and naturally influences the music he creates. genotype is a man of few words and prefers to let his music do the talking so check out the album and draw your own conclusions.

short about the label: a joint effort between prins thomas and word and sound- the idea behind the label is to put out good music and not limiting ourselves to stick with a specific genre, instead opting to stay fresh and individual with each release going in every direction we feel. were gonna be highlighting new talent, re-releasing some lesser known nuggets and certainly give you some dancefloor killers along the way to. from japanese techno to california kraut, just the way we like it. fernando pulichino should be a familiar name to you, either as part of 2020 soundsystem or maybe his recent cover version of bauhaus >kick in the eye< on redux? anyway, we cherry picked 2 of his tracks, one for the peaktime and one for the good times.

our dutch counterpart onno is known for his dance floor mastery. his after school ep on upon you was a multifunctionalmover that could teach any lethargic raver a few aerobic moves. >hit me< is in the same league and is completely unsuitable for yoga and pilates, so hes succesfully targeted the blonde dance instructor once again. onno brings the a1 fatburner to a peak with his charming impertinence. thomas schuhmachers pimped version of this awesome rave stepper on b1 tugs and pulls at your pants dragging you kicking and screaming to the dance parquet, where you soon realize that you never want to leave, but for those of you that want to lose some weight also know that you always need to condition yourself and >ghetto talk< on b2 is the perfect bouncy tune for that hour or so on the treadmill.

the restoration crew strikes back with >amber e.p.< , a celebration of the necessary power to feed the machines and to keep them working. live recorded on tape, its pure raw analogue sound, its true dedication to urban dance music. the long track on side a, >andy< is produced by the third side, the infamous berlin based team formed by panorama bar resident steffi (ostgut ton/klakson), marieu and lucretio. an evocative female voice,a powerful rumbling bass, fat beats, hypnotic strings, a relentless pace, an acid taste: simply, a burning spear for the dancefloor. on side b, >thinking right< by lucretio pick up the baton left by infiniti with his later works. full sub-bass deep techno with soul. ground breaking rhythms, filtered vocals and harmonies, a smooth build up on a minimalisitc structure. clear eyes on the future of techno. marieus >the guardian< is an amazing fusion of jazz and deep house with motown influences. the blend of vanguardist chords and exquisite tight drums lead to a joyful experience, the surprising ad-libs spreaded along the track keeps the involvement high during 7 minutes

THE 4 BASIC FOOD GROUPS
12 Inch
13.10.10
the first and most important of the four food groups is flapjacks. a great example of this is in bryan jones flapjackin jam low flow. the beats are as thick with butter milk and the bass is fluffy and melts in your ears. the second food group and a perfect complement to the first is syrup. czech republics arco gives us a sugery delight entitled first time, which can be poured or spread over just about everything from toast and flapjacks to spaghetti noodles. this tune has a nice and deep brown maple sound that like syrupy goodness, sweetens up every mix. the third basic food group is eggs, everyones favorite baby animal embryo treat. melbourne, australias house mopper d-t3ch, plucked the perfect egg from his prized chicken with his spoken word groove give & take. in this smooth bumpin scenario, the chicken gives the egg, and d-t3ch takes it and whips it up into a wonder house omelet. the last but certainly not the least of the 4 basic food groups is the bacon. bacon just makes everything better. oregons forrest avery & derty d definitely take the bacon with their super fried, crispy, salty smash hit the perfect beat. this tune does to a club what bacon does to your heart…it clogs dance floors
